Hi, I'm Anna! ENFJ. Korean-American. Self-taught baker. Registered nurse. Powerlifter. Music junkie. Oh, and matcha enthusiast. First off, thank you for entering my little creative space! As you can probably tell from my name, I love to bake. My journey had humble beginnings, as I found joy in the simplicity of box cake mixes and the charm of easy bake ovens during my childhood. However, it was during my high school years that my passion for baking truly took flight, where I started crafting my own recipes from scratch and fell in love with food photography. What began as a simple hobby blossomed into a full-fledged love affair with all things sweet, which eventually evolved into The Baking Spoon, a dessert blog that celebrates the beauty and flavors of sweet creations.
Drawing on memories and nostalgic emotions associated with food, my creative process incorporates both childhood and ongoing experiences that deeply impact me. Rooted in my Korean American heritage, the influence of Asian-inspired cuisine has left an indelible mark on my dessert creations. The time spent observing my mother meticulously preparing traditional Korean dishes has instilled in me a deep appreciation for precision and attention to detail, which I carry into my baking endeavors. Much of my inspiration stems from a desire to explore distinctive, intricate flavors, textures, and presentations. Asian-inspired cuisine has not only shaped my dessert recipes but has also become a treasured connection to my cultural heritage, allowing me to infuse my creations with a taste of my roots and share the beauty of Asian flavors with the world. Fun Facts About Me
- I am a Registered Nurse with experience in pediatric and postpartum nursing.
- I was born and raised in the DMV my whole life (shoutout to my east coast followers!).
- I was trained as a classical pianist since the age of 6. My most memorable performances have been at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.
- I used to be a competitive powerlifter and competed on the national level.
- I am a proud Engene of the kpop boy group, Enhypen, and my bias is Ni-Ki.
- My favorite food is sushi and go-to dessert is Korean bingsu.
- I do not have an affinity for watching tv shows. I'd much rather pass my free time listening to a podcast, lifting weights, or being in the kitchen.
- I eloped with my now-husband Kevin in the Canadian Rockies of Banff National Park. You can see some of our pictures here!
- I absolutely love everything about Studio Ghibli.
It's on my bucket list to visit the SG Park in Japan!(finally went in 2023 and it was incredible!)
